Welcome to Happy Wife Acres! We are a small farm operated by a husband and wife team, John and Andrea. We are homesteaders, which means we try to provide for ourselves as much as possible. We are also educators, meaning we want to share what we know with others. So the mission of our farm is being Educating Homesteaders.
Let us tell you a little about ourselves. Neither of us grew up in farming communities. However, both of our families understood the importance of good food, including growing and preserving fruits, vegetables, and hunting the occasional wild game. As adults, we had the desire to grow our own food, so we were immediately attracted to our property the moment we first saw it. There was plenty of room for a garden. And one corner of the barn had a dirt floor. When Andrea said “I want chickens here”, John said “Yes Dear, happy wife, happy life”. We welcomed our first 9 chickens the next spring, and have steadily grown ever since to include ducks, guineas, rabbits, and bees. So many of you have been an important part of our growth, and we sincerely thank you. We love our life on the farm, and couldn’t imagine it any other way!
We freely share what we know and continue to learn about being homesteaders. If you are interested in becoming an apprentice to get personalized one-on-one training, check out our Apprentices page.
We hope the information you find here will help you begin or strengthen your homesteading skills. For additional content, check out our very active Facebook page and YouTube channel.
