Learn About Our Special Animals
Meet Ada, a two-month-old tabby kitten. Ada is new to the farm, but she has already won our hearts. Her arrival was anything but ordinary.
On 19 July, Andrea was searching for eggs in the barn. Despite all the nest boxes in the coop, they lay wherever they want. Andrea was looking behind a wheel barrow in an interior corner. She yelled out “John, there’s either a kitten or a baby raccoon here”. Thankfully it was a kitten, but we couldn’t catch it. We set up a live trap with some cat food, and the next morning, we had a kitten!
We have no idea where she came from, but she came alone. Now I know what you’re thinking: stray cats are everywhere, especially in the country! Well, not around here. In the 7 years that we’ve live here, we’ve only seen two others. What is surprising about Ada is that she made her way to the farm, and then past several chickens to wind up in that corner. But she made it.
At first, Ada was frightened and hungry. She spent a couple of days in a spacious crate, but soon became so calm that Andrea brought her inside. Ada gets friendlier every day, and purrs loudly. She’s already had her first vet visit, and is being treated for fleas and intestinal parasites (which every outdoor cat has). She will be spayed in about two months.
As she grows up, Ada will join Colby and Jack as a full-time mouser. Grayson, our retired mouser, will oversee mousing activities (or sleep all day). Everyone on the farm has a job, and Ada has been hired!
By the way, the name Ada came to Andrea in a dream. Her mind works in crazy ways, even when she’s sleeping. So, Ada it is!
If you visit, you might not see Ada outside for a while. She will grow bigger indoors and will soon join the mouse hunting team!
