We sell 2 types of chicken meat. All are packaged whole in freezer-safe shrink bags and frozen.
Old Hens ($5.50/pound). Old hens are tough, but full of flavor. They make wonderful stock and for soups and stews. If you want to make chicken and dumplings like your grandmother did, you’ll need an old hen. But you can’t buy old hens in any grocery store! We process and sell old hens throughout the warm months.
Young Roosters ($5.50/pound). Young roosters are under 6 months old. Because of their age, they are more tasty than Cornish Cross, but still tender. These are heritage chickens, so they have a different body shape than what you might be used to. Most notable, there is less breast meat. They can be fried or roasted, but also make great soups, stock, and casseroles. Young roosters are allowed to live freely on pasture, and are raised without hormones, antibiotics, or solution injections.
