Sadly, Peggy died during the summer of 2019. She was never able to get outside and live like a normal chicken. She gradually lost weight until she was unable to sustain herself. She probably missed all the attention from the STEM students. About a month later, Penny also died. She probably missed Peggy a great deal.
The video updates are still posted so visitors can see Peggy’s incredible journey. Student researchers at the Dayton Regional STEM School worked to design and prototype prosthetic feet for Peggy.
Peggy lost her feet to frostbite in January 2018. She ate and drank normally, but could not move around easily. She was smaller than normal, but was a happy chicken and was a surrogate mom to many chicks.
Students at the Dayton Regional STEM School began designing feet for Peggy on 23 October 2018. They made great progress throughout the school year, and Peggy was able to take a few steps before school let out for the summer.
